As many other consumers have complained about this same problem with these Skyslider Roofs going back as far as I can tell 2008, I do not understand why Chrysler continues to make them. Once you hit 40 or above noise is unbearable and the fixes the dealer tries are worse and do not last.

Part of the fix is Velcro as we all know eventually will wear out and needs to be replaced.

The rest of the fix adds a plastic piece between roof and interior which looks horrible and does not hold-mine stayed up one week. Some States have ordered buy backs under Lemon Laws but Chrysler does not admit they have a fauty product.

Good thing we have good insurance. Geico declared her Jeep a total loss and gave us enough money to pay it off and have a sizable down payment on her brand new SUV.

Not thrilled with the roof situation, but it seems to have worked out well for us. My wife LOVES her new ride.

So your insurance wrote off your Jeep as a total loss because of the Skyliner roof issue . Mine wouldn't pay for a rental while I waited for Chrysler to make up their mind on replacement parts .

How'd you get them to agree . Like to try it on my AAA insurer

We have Geico. I let them know that if the roof can't be repaired, the only fix would be good replacement.

The adjuster verified that and let me know he'd check the cost of roof replacement and decide if it made sense of if they'd have to total the Jeep. He called me back a bit later to let me know they'd be considering the Jeep a total loss.

They figured out the value and then paid off the Jeep and issued us a check for the difference. Very quick and painless once the situation was fully apprised.

I think it's WAY PAST time to get a class action lawsuit going. My wife's 2012 Liberty is basically worthless because Jeep refuses to step up and do the right thing on behalf of their consumers. I will start my lawyer search tomorrow.

I am in the exact same position. I have a 2012 Jeep Liberty with a broken slider roof. I am seeking a lawyer as well.

This is Dennis from Louisville . First off don't expect replacement parts from Chrysler .

Here are the options I looked into while my Jeep sat undercover in the driveway . You can have your local body shop remove and replace the entire roof with a factory metal skin. Cost is between $4200 & $4600 or you can luck out like I did and take it to a sunroof installation facility. I chose this place because they actually installed leather seats in my 2011 Jeep right I after I had bought it.

This guy had replaced and worked on these Skyliner roofs before and was very familiar with the way they operated . He was able in my case to tie down the roof from underneath the head liner and seal the outside with a Black silicone . He also disconnected the electrical to the roof motors . Cost $429.00 I've been driving my Jeep since February with out any leaks .I am sad I will never be able to open the roof , but at least I am able to keep it on the road.

Just turned 98K miles and my plan is to drive it till it drops. Good Luck and look at your local sunroof guy for assistance .

Bought a 2008 Jeep Liberty with the skyslider in January. Only opened it 4 or 5 times, but a few weeks ago noticed it didn't shut all the way in the back, leaving the canvas looking crumpled from the outside.

On my way home noticed I could see through a gap in the roof even though it was supposed to be closed and sealed. Once home, attempted to reopen and close it hoping it would shut all the way, but the back wouldn't close at all! When I inspected it, there was broken plastic pieces and pins that had come out. I had to pull the roof back by hand but it is not sealed or connected and easily moves back and forth, exposing the back to rain.

There's no way I'm touching the controls again for fear of the front breaking as well. This has completely screwed me over as I'm still making payments on my loan for this vehicle and have two years before it's paid off. I can't afford to pay $2000-**** to have the roof replaced. I'm considering taking it to a body shop in hopes they can do anything for me, but chances are I'm SOL.

There needs to be a recall on the skyslider or a class action lawsuit needs to be filed against Jeep for failing to take any responsibility for this faulty roof, which could potentially fly open on the road and lead to an accident, and has left many of us with a Jeep SUV with effectively no roof. This was my first Jeep, and it will be my last unless they make an effort to fix this issue.

Made the mistake of buying a 2012 Jeep Liberty because it had very low miles and we hoped it would last us 6-8 years. After opening the slider top for the 2nd time it now will not close properly.

Water comes in & is ruining the interior.

We bought the extended warranty but sounds like it will not be covered. What a joke!!

I had been searching for a nice Jeep so excited about getting a 2012 low mile and about 3000 dollars cheaper than what others sold . Now after the first rain I realized why it sold.

Had I looked up on the roof it would had dawn on me that it leaks. I canโ€™t drive it when it rains and it was as is. They go over these cars and you canโ€™t tell me they did not see the stains. I would not had bought if I knew it leaked and they should had told me before I bought it , of course they said they did not know.

And the lemon law is only for new cars in Okla. I donโ€™t mind buying something as is if I can fix it. But you have to replace the entire roof.

I feel like they saw me coming a mile away . So very unhappy and will get something done about

I have a 2010 Jeep Liberty with a broken sky slider. Small plastic pieces broke on the track.

I have found all but 1 part necessary to repair. Parts have been discontinued so looks like I am out of luck. I am so flipping aggravated with Jeep! I bought the car specifically for the sky slider and just want to fix it!

They need to make parts to repair their sky sliders.

May be *** but they need to be responsible for their products because they are still out there! I have no idea where to go from here.

I bought my daughter a 2010 Jeep Liberty with the sky slider roof. She was so happy with it until last week when it wouldnโ€™t close.

We have taken it to two places and it canโ€™t be fixed.

Iโ€™m a single mom and donโ€™t have the money to pay off the Jeep or buy a new car. Now I have no idea what to do with no help from Chrysler.

I have the exact same issue chrysler gave me the run around for months and now says they arent going to fix it and they are offering employee discount on a new vehicle

2012 Jeep Liberty Jet owner. Original owner!!

Sky slider broke in July. Paid for parts at dealership and some came in. Been waiting since August now for the rest of parts to come in. Was told many times they are on order.

Finally told December 31 parts are pending. Called dealer yesterday (1/3/19) and told that the parts will not be shipped and there is nothing to be done now. My money would be refunded for the parts I paid for already. Called Chrysler last night and was given a case number and told a supervisor would call me back today.

I do not think they will do anything and with all of the complaints here, on Edmunds, on NHTS board, on consumer reports etc etc etc that there should be legal action taken. It is a slap in the face to consumers that they are now touting 2019 model with skyslider roofs again and we canโ€™t get our cars fixed. I have zero problems with the car besides their faulty roof and water staining now from roof leaking.

Car is mint inside and out with only 70,000 miles on it. Based on any conversation I have with supervisor today will determine my next actions.

Hi, i have the same problem, what did you find out? thanks.

I was also notified by Chrysler last of Nov and told my 2011 Jeep Liberty skyliner roof could only be repaired by using salvage parts . What luck that would be!

My Jeep has been under a car cover since Feb of this year . Dealership caused a short when they attempted to make repairs so now besides a roof that will not close my battery will not stayed charged . I was lead on for 10 months with weekly updates of promises for resolutions . Now they offer me employee discount on a new Chrysler product.

I was forced to purchase a replacement car last August because my employer was getting tried of my adjusted work hours since I was bumming a ride everywhere I needed to go .

This whole experience has been soo frustrating just to be told sorry about that ! This is just not right

Here's the newest update - we were informed by 11/2/18 that they will not be able to manufacture the cable assembly for the skyslider anymore, which deems the cars unrepairable. But insurance won't consider it a total loss, so we are so screwed.

anyone with this top, if the cables fail, the car will be unrepairable.

We'd like to talk to others in this same situation. Class action lawsuit needed.

I'm in the same situation! My cables snapped in July and I am STILL without repair.

Just followed up with Jeep Customer service and my case was closed without even notifying me. I'm so frustrated.

I am in the same boat!! I left Rick Hendrick dealership a couple hours ago.

They have had my 2012 Jeep Liberty for several months. I have a case with Chrysler also. I was told a month ago that there is a new company that will manufacture the parts because the new 2019 Wranglers will have a similar top. However, they would not be available until late December 2018 or January 2019.

So my car was sitting in their bay torn apart. I got a call last week that the new company has informed them that they will NOT be making these parts. There is NO fix. They can get it closed and I just better not accidentally open it.

My car was still under the extended warranty plan and they still offer no solutions. I recommended putting a glass in it or cutting the sky slider out and putting a standard metal top on but they said they donโ€™t pay for me to โ€œcustomizeโ€ my vehicle. Chrysler said the best they can do is offer me the friends and family discount which would be somewhere between 1%-5% off of a new vehicle. So at most $1500 off of a $30,000 car.

I am so frustrated! I am taking this to have a lawyer look over this!
